Lemonade Day, a nationally renowned non-profit organization that empowers children through experiential entrepreneurship, has elected Mikaila Ulmer to its Board of Directors. Mikaila is a trailblazing entrepreneur, speaker, and author, best known as the founder and CEO of Me & the Bees Lemonade.
At just four years old, Mikaila began her entrepreneurial journey with Lemonade Day’s Austin chapter in 2009. After being stung twice by bees, she became passionate about their role in the ecosystem and later discovered her Great Granny Helen’s flaxseed lemonade recipe in a 1940s family cookbook. Inspired, she launched Me & the Bees Lemonade.
Now 20, a Woodruff Scholar at Emory University in her third year, Mikaila is a leading voice in social entrepreneurship, continuing to drive her company’s mission to help educate consumers on the importance of honeybees in the ecosystem and combat their alarming decline. Over the past 15 years, Me & the Bees Lemonade has grown from a lemonade stand to a national brand, available at major retailers like H-E-B, Whole Foods Market, Target, and The Fresh Market. She has been featured on Shark Tank and in major media outlets such as Good Morning America, NBC News, Bloomberg, and Forbes, among many others.
“Mikaila’s journey is one of ongoing growth and leadership,” said Nicole Cassier-Mason, CEO of Lemonade Day National. “Her passion for social entrepreneurship and guiding the next generation of changemakers makes her an incredible addition to our National Board of Directors.”
Mikaila is currently leading Me & the Bees into its next phase of growth with strategic partnerships expanding the brand’s reach. Her book, Bee Fearless: Dream Like a Kid, published by Penguin Random House, shares her entrepreneurial insights and inspires the next generation of changemakers. Through her Healthy Hive Foundation, she continues her mission to save the bees by donating a percentage of profits from Me & the Bees to the cause. She is passionate about helping to educate others about the importance of finance, investing, and venture capital, especially the next generation of diverse budding entrepreneurs.
“It’s vitally important that kids are given the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship early on,” explained Mikaila. “The skills and lessons that you learn and apply while running a lemonade stand are the very skills that help you manage a business, lead an organization, and excel academically. I want others to see the magic that happens when kids discover the power of entrepreneurship.”
Lemonade Day introduces K-8 students to entrepreneurship by turning the simple lemonade stand into a powerful learning experience. The program nurtures the durable life skills, growth mindset, and confidence needed for future success. "Every child has the potential to lead and innovate through entrepreneurship," stated Mikaila. "I happen to be one of the many cases in which the magic of a lemonade stand inspired a lasting impact on my community and future."
